Originally form Toronto, Uma began her studies with Sharon Gannon and David Life at the Jivamukti Yoga Studio in NYC over 20 years ago.
She went to India for the first time in 1991 and received her teaching certificate from Sivananda Yoga Dhanvantari Ashram. Shortly afterwards, Uma spent time after studying Asthanga Yoga with K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore.
After returning to NYC, Uma began teaching at Jivamukti and other yoga studios, privately, and in gyms. She has continued her studies in various styles of yoga including philosophy, therapeutics and Sanskrit.
Uma opened her first studio in 1995, right after the birth of her first son, Jai. She moved to Berkshires in late 1996, and taught at health clubs and privately for next several years.
Uma had her second son, Sasha in late 1999, and returned to India in 2001 to study at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai.
Uma opened her first Berkshire studio in South Egremont in 2002 in a historic barn, and moved to a Yurt in her backyard the next year. She is very happy to currently have a presence in downtown Great Barrington.
